The Grand Sjælland Castle Route

This 350+ km journey is a sweeping tour through Danish royal history, taking you from the bustling cobblestone streets of Copenhagen all the way to the quiet, scenic coastlines of the deep south.

Here is a breakdown of the four distinct "chapters" of your trip:

Copenhagen's Royal Heart: You begin right in the city center. You'll pass the seat of Danish parliament at Christiansborg, see the Crown Jewels tucked away in the Renaissance-era Rosenborg, and visit the royal family's elegant winter residence at Amalienborg.

The North Zealand Triangle: Heading north out of the city, the route dives into the historic royal hunting forests. You'll visit the spectacular Frederiksborg Castle (spanning three small islands), the peaceful Fredensborg Palace (the "Danish Versailles"), and finally stand on the coast at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, famously known as the home of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Fjords & Ancient History: Turning west, the landscape becomes more rugged. You'll visit the historic Jægerspris hunting lodge, push into the hilly Odsherred region to see the 800-year-old (and famously haunted) Dragsholm Castle, and loop down to the beautiful 18th-century Ledreborg Palace near Roskilde.

The Southern Estates: The final stretch takes you south through the peaceful, rolling countryside. You will stop by the striking red-brick and moated Vallø Castle, explore the incredible island gardens of Gavnø, and finish the grand tour at the iconic Goose Tower of the ruined medieval Vordingborg Castle.
